Call for Submissions: Visual Campaign for DIFF 2020

Designers and agencies are invited to pitch for the DIFF 2020 campaign. Pitches should include the following:

– A concept rationale of the visual campaign, including references

– A near-to-complete poster design – illustrated / photography / hand rendered / vector etc.

– Present an execution plan for the roll out of:

A1 Poster

Covers of Programme Book

Pop-up Banners

T-shirts

Bags

Digital Banners for online platforms

30 Second promotional video (concept and treatment only)

Guidelines

Our target market is very broad so the campaign should speak clearly across cultures, maintaining a local edge while speaking to an International audience, in a visual language that is understood by all.

You should review and react to international counterparts. Find out what they are doing right and wrong. Examples include Sundance, Rotterdam, Berlinale, Cannes, Venice, Toronto and Busan.

We are looking for something completely new. Check out the festival archive of posters, and what has come before, and how that legacy can be reinterpreted for today’s audiences.

Submissions

Please submit your design (PDF and max 3MB) and a short, written rationale, explaining your design, to diff@ukzn.ac.za. All entries must have the subject line DIFF 2020 Campaign. Deadline for submissions is 13 March 2020.

Selection

– The selected designer or agency will be paid R30 000 for the use of their campaign concept and final poster artwork.

– A further R15 000 will be paid for the roll-out of finished artwork for associated elements that include:

Pop-Up Banners

Covers of Programme Book

T-shirts (graphic and layout of logos and funders’ text)

Bags

Digital Banners for online platforms

– R30 000 will be allocated towards the production of the 30 second promotional video.

– In addition to the above, DIFF requires the compilation of short films into feature length packages, for which R10 000 would be paid.
