Professional South African surfer Adin Masencamp takes us on a  journey into the thick kelp beds of a surfing spot in the deep ocean off Cape Town. Swells from distant storms have travelled for many kilometres before they crack over the rock reef and explode like a water bomb. To surf here requires dodging abalone poachers and the occasional shark, not to mention the wave itself, which breaks like the infamous Pipeline of Hawaii, only in freezing cold water over huge clumps of kelp.
