Bruce Retief is a multifaceted South African filmmaker whose journey began in film composition, where he established a solid foundation in storytelling through music. Transitioning into writing and producing, he crafted his first feature film, 1960, which garnered critical acclaim and won Best South African Feature at the 2022 Durban International Film Festival. Now, with The Drive, Bruce teams up with Tafara Nyatsanza and brings his unique vision to the screen, solidifying his reputation as a versatile and dynamic force in the industry.
Tafara Nyatsanza is a multi-award-winning actor and director whose screen credits include international titles such as SPELL, Bulletproof, Blood & Water, BEAST (alongside Idris Elba), Lootere, and The Fix. He has also directed a 2024 short film based on Simbarashe Nyatsanza’s story and the 2025 feature The Drive, while continuing to write commissioned scripts for both film and television. Trained at the University of Cape Town (BA in Theatre and Performance), Tafara has an extensive background in theatre as both actor and director, earning accolades such as the 2020 Fleur du Cap Award for his solo performance in SCOTT and the 2023 NAMA Award for Best Artist in the Diaspora. His stage portfolio includes numerous acclaimed productions across South Africa and Zimbabwe, along with teaching and directing work in the theatre sector.
