Maryam Touzani was born in Tangier. After closely participating inMuch Loved and co-writing Razzia with Nabil Ayouch in which she also starred, she directed her first feature, Adam, selected at Cannes (Un Certain Regard) and Morocco’s official Oscar submission. In 2022, she directed The Blue Caftan, also selected at Cannes, and shortlisted for the Oscars, a historic first for a Moroccan film. It won over 60 awards worldwide and achieved the highest international box office takings ever for a Moroccan film. In 2023, she was a member of the Official Competition jury at the Cannes Film Festival. Her latest film, Calle Malaga, a Spanish-language drama starring Carmen Maura, will be released in 2025.
