The 45th Durban International Film Festival (DIFF)

18 – 28 July 2024

The 45th Durban International Film Festival (DIFF), set to take place from 18 to 28 July 2024, will again screen the finest features, documentaries, short films and student films from all over the world. In 2023, DIFF presented 90 films from 54 countries.

The festival has a competition, presenting Awards for Best Feature Film, Best South African Feature, Best Documentary, Best South African Documentary, Best Short Film, Best South African Short Film, Best Student Film, Best South African Student Film and an Audience Choice Award. Amnesty International Durban presents a Human Rights Award.

DIFF is one of four Oscar Qualifying Festivals in Africa – the films that win Best Documentary and Best Short Film automatically qualify for the Oscars Race.

isiPhethu Industry Programme

The DIFF’s isiPhethu Industry Programme is made up of panel discussions, workshops and seminars for emerging filmmakers and festival audiences. The five-day programme will take place from 22 to 26 July 2024 and has no entrance fee.


The festival is currently accepting submissions. The deadline for submissions is 31 January 2024.
