Martha, an indigenous woman, works tirelessly in a laundromat loading machines and folding washing, ready for the collection by her boss. When a mysterious visitor arrives, Martha is reminded of the life she has left behind.
John is a writer, director, and producer of Saibai Island (Torres Strait) and English descent, and the creative director of Brown Cab working across both narrative and documentary formats in film, theatre, and television. John's recent short film KATELE (MUDSKIPPER) won the Flickerfest Best Australian Short Film Award (Academy Qualifying) in January 2023. He was the recipient of the Victorian Premier's Prize for Drama for THE RETURN. He produced the feature film SPEAR and the chapter SAND for Robert Connolly’s omnibus feature film THE TURNING (MIFF, Berlinale) based on Tim Winton’s book of short stories. In 2022, John and his Co-Director Rhian Skirving were awarded the Australian Directors’ Guild Award for Best Direction in a TV or SVOD Documentary Series Episode or Documentary One-Off for OFF COUNTRY.
