11 year old Brett’s perfect plan to surprise his father for his birthday is thrown into jeopardy as his dad hijacks the agenda by corralling his son to the local Johannesburg betting bar with the promise of resuming the day’s festivities as soon as possible. Inside the bar, tensions rise as Brett realizes his father’s scheme after he is tasked with making a seemingly harmless horse racing bet on his dad’s behalf. Desperate to save his father’s birthday surprise, Brett accepts the responsibility only to unwittingly unleash a sea of chaos that enmeshes him in his dad’s debts and crooked dealings as he starts to unravel the man who he thinks his father is.
