Antoinette Engel is an award-winning producer committed to the collaborative spirit that underpins all creative projects. Co-producer of the feature-length documentary Dorpie, World Premiere IDFA Frontlight 2022, winner 3rd place / special mention Encounters | Al-Jazeera Best Documentary Award at the 2023 edition of the Encounters South African International Documentary Film Festival; Executive Producer of Black Women Disrupt The Web, a transnational web series project with women in Brazil, Colombia, Kenya and South Africa and producer of a slate of ten short films by first time female directors for the National Film and Video Foundation. In 2023, a VR sandbox experience by South African artist Natalie Paneng commissioned by Electric South, which she Executive Produced, received the IDFA DocLab Special Jury Award for Creative Technology.Selected as one of 12 creative professionals for the inaugural edition of the RLNS episodic lab for African writers and development executives in partnership with Netflix in 2021, she is also an alum of the Durban Talent Campus (2013), the Durban Film Mart Finance Forum (2015), Cinemart Producer’s Lab at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (2016). She has pitched at the 79th Venice International Film Festival’s Gap-Finance Market and the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam’s DocLab Forum with the immersive project, We Speak Their Names in Hushed Tones, where it won the IDFA DocLab Forum Award.
