Mthunzi Dubazana discovered a gift for storytelling in primary school, winning writing competitions and having his short stories published (MTHUNZI AND THE STRANGERS and THE DOGS OF FEAR). This fostered a lifelong dream for writing and telling stories. His journey in the television and film industry began in high school with a day spent on the set of “BAY OF PLENTY”.
He has since been an active participant in television shows, feature films, and commercials, chasing his dream of working on the production of stories for both the big and small screen. A major highlight came when a show he created, eHOSTELA, was commissioned by a local broadcaster, becoming a hit in 2019 and running for multiple seasons. His passion for development and writing of stories catapulted him all the way through into the directing them.
His extensive work experience includes roles such as:
Creative Director for Amalanga Awafani (Telenovela SABC1) (January 2025 to date) and Uzalo season 10 (Telenovela SABC 1) (November 2023 to Date).
Director for Umjolo There is no cure (Netflix film) (January – March 2024), Mother of all S1 (local drama series) (August 2022), ISIFISO S1 (Local drama series, airing on 1Magic and Mzansi magic) (June 2022), The WIFE S1 and S2 (local telenovela) (November 2021 to May 2022), and Durban Gen S1 and S2 (Local soapie) (June 2020 to October 2021).
