Dorina Amina Abubakar is a producer, programmer, and creative industries strategist specializing in global partnerships at the intersection of film, television, fashion, emerging technologies, and international cultural exchange. Her work focuses on building commercially viable creative ecosystems across Africa through innovation, market access, and next-generation storytelling models. She is the Program Director of African Creative TV (ACTV) and Head of Global Industry Initiatives & Partnerships at the American Film Showcase (AFS), the U.S. Department of State’s flagship film and television diplomacy program produced in partnership with the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Through ACTV, she leads high-level exchanges, residencies, and industry labs connecting established African television creators with leading American studios, executives, producers, and emerging technologies. Dorina’s work increasingly centers on the future of storytelling, particularly the rise of micro-dramas, vertical storytelling, AI-assisted production workflows, and mobile-first entertainment ecosystems. She has spoken internationally on short-form serialized storytelling, Gen Z audience behavior, creator economies, and the commercial opportunities emerging across Africa’s rapidly expanding digital entertainment market. She is currently launching a pan-African micro-drama engine alongside Quan Phung and Likarion Wainaina focused on adaptations, branded content, and original programming. Alongside her work in global media strategy, Dorina programs for major festivals and markets including Tribeca Festival, American Black Film Festival, Brooklyn Horror Film Festival. She has also worked extensively across the global fashion industry as a casting director, collaborating with brands including Vivienne Westwood, Kenzo, Prada, and Off-White. In 2026, Dorina is leading several major international initiatives across Africa and Asia, including an advanced TV Directing Workshop in Accra, Ghana focused on strengthening episodic television production and director-producer collaboration across the continent. Later this year, she will also spearhead a Micro-Drama Workshop and Pitching Opportunity at the Asia TV Forum & Market in Singapore, bringing together creators, platforms, and industry leaders to explore scalable mobile-first storytelling and international co-production opportunities.
Additionally, Dorina is currently developing a state-of-the-art production studio and residential complex in Accra designed to support international productions, creator infrastructure, and long-term industry growth. She holds degrees from New York University and University of California, Los Angeles, and her work is informed by a global perspective shaped by lived experiences across Ghana, Germany, The Bahamas, and the United Kingdom.
