Ikenna Ezenyirioha is a seasoned creative, film programmer, industry executive, and the Artistic Director of the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF). Affectionately known as ‘ikay’ within festival circles, he has been a driving force behind AFRIFF’s growth since its inception in 2010, shaping its programming, industry initiatives, and talent development efforts. With a background in Fine and Applied Arts from the University of Nigeria, Ikenna seamlessly transitioned from event management to film programming, having worked closely with renowned curators such as June Givanni, Keith Shiri, and Newton Aduaka, who led AFRIFF’s programming from its early years through 2018. His expertise extends to designing AFRIFF’s industry and talent development training, fostering the next generation of African filmmakers. Before AFRIFF, Ikenna built a diverse career spanning advertising, information technology, branding, merchandising, events and entertainment. In 2008, he joined Jata Logistics, an event production and logistics firm led by AFRIFF founder Chioma Ude, where he spearheaded major projects, including the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), the Africa Film Academy Charity Benefit, the Africa Design Expo, and the ION International Film Festival. In 2010, he played a pivotal role in the establishment and structuring of AFRIFF, collaborating closely with Chioma Ude to build an exciting platform for cinematic expression in Anglophone West Africa. Under Chioma’s leadership, Ikenna has facilitated AFRIFF’s evolution into one of the most vibrant and rapidly expanding film festivals in Africa, renowned for its immersive socials, industry vibrance and commitment to showcasing groundbreaking storytelling. Passionate about filmmaker empowerment and capacity building, Ikenna continues to oversee AFRIFF’s programming, talent development initiatives, and emerging projects in film distribution. His work is dedicated to elevating African cinema, fostering international collaborations, and creating impactful opportunities for filmmakers across the continent.
